Some malware allows hackers to remotely control your webcam and spy on you. These Trojans have been around for a while and every now and then I get computers in my shop that have this type of infection. Like with most other types of malware, your PC gets infected when you click on attachments in emails or download anything including games, movies, music, pictures, etc. Your webcam is operating when the little red or blue indicator light is on. The best way to keep hackers from filming you is very low-tech. When not in use, cover your camera with a post-it note or a Band-Aid. And as always, make sure you have an up-to-date antivirus installed on your PC that is set to automatically scan and make sure your firewall is turned on. Be careful what you agree to download.
